I met so many beautiful souls there, and the friendships and encouragement I received far outshone any knowledge I gained. Realm Makers was certainly the highlight of my year, as it often is, but for a very different reason last year. It was the perfect note to start the conference on, and a great way to unwind after the full days. The weekend was bookended for me by the long drive, filled with deep conversation with a dear friend. I had the most wonderful roommates this year-and having the room and the company therein be a haven is essential for times when everything can easily get so overwhelming! Adventuring in the city before the conference began, and being able to crash behind their book table with them were highlights. And there’s always spontaneous conversation with other browsers over a certain book, or someone’s fandom attire, or simply our shared experiences at the conference. My favorite part, though, is browsing the vendor hall-stopping to smell the bookish candles, and drool over every beautiful cover.

The classes were informative as always, and the keynotes were both hilarious and inspiring. Realm Makers is such an immersive experience, it takes a while to fully catch your breath after it’s all over.ĭespite the bustle and over-stimulation of the venue this year, it was a refreshing weekend with the unique fellowship that makes it special every year. I’ve been collecting my thoughts on this for a couple weeks, as I slowly adjust back to “real life”.
